Look Closer!

Have you taken a moment lately to notice all the different textures and patterns in Nature? Deep grooves in some places, some objects are rough, others soft, smooth, or luminous. Each surface is unique.

The closer you look, the more amazing details you will see! For instance, this last summer and fall, I got curious about a common weed I saw in my yard and the forest that surrounds my home. It looks like it has only fluffy down and no flowers. Kind of ugly if you ask me, but I figured it had some purpose or beauty to it. Indeed, I was not wrong…

I researched this weed a bit and found out that birds use its down for lining there nests, Daddy Long legs hunt on them, and that it actually does have small flowers. I zoomed in with my camera and saw these delicate small flowers.

To me, stopping and really looking a bit closer, is akin to treasure hunting. You never know what you will uncover or see.

The patterns and textures of the natural world bring new inspirations to mind for painting and writing poems. It never ceases to bring wonder into my life.
